SF LOVEFEST 2006 WRAP-UP
San Francisco felt the LOVE and so did the 65,000 people that showed up at SF LoveFest 2006. 23 floats, 25 sound systems, 200+ DJs gigging, 1 spectacular City Hall, 1 marriage ceremony, countless unofficial after parties and 1 gigantic official after event with over 9,000 in attendance, and 0 problems.

“We are extremely excited about the success of SF Lovefest 2006. After a challenging year of planning, in a short time frame, to see this event come off as well as it did was an amazing feat and a fantastic outcome.”, said Joshua Smith, SF LoveFest Board President.“It is a testament to the community who have supported us from the beginning and who said repeatedly, that we could call it what we wanted as long as there was a parade and festival to be had. It was an incredible feeling to look out over the sea of people in attendance. Our mission seemed fulfilled at that one extraordinary moment; to create a place and event where people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, could come together under one unifying umbrella - SF LoveFest 2006.This event wouldn't have been what it was without the volunteers, the City of San Francisco, the artists and float/event producers, or the people who participated, and we are thankful to them all.”
“It really knocked me out. It was my first time in San Francisco and the city truly swept me away. Colorful, beautiful people just rocked and rocked and rocked.” Benny Benassi
“The Lovefest represents what the electronic music scene is about - a community of people inspired by music, which enables us to create and achieve the unbelievable. It is a moment in life that will always be remembered. I would like to give my respect to everyone who participated in the production of this event, to the artists that performed, to the those that attended and especially to the City of San Francisco for allowing us to create this celebration. Your cooperation and respect are appreciated.” Christopher Lawrence
"Great crowd. Very strong event with great production. It was wonderful to be a part of it." Paul Oakenfold
“San Francisco LoveFest is the most chaotic, euphoric, unmissable party event on our calendar! Where else can you see Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold and naked men on roller skates all in one day??” Above & Beyond
"Lovefest was better than ever this year. The buzz at the event was
electric and I cannot imagine a much better city in America to throw
such an event. I met people from all over the country that had flown
in for the event and they were all blown away to say the least. It's
one of the best festivals America has going at the moment and it
seems to keep getting better!" DJ Dan

Before the Parade set off down Market St., it received the blessing of none other then Love Parade Founder, Dr. Motte. He gave a proper keynote speech that empowered each individual within the parade to recognize all of the event's participants as a complete community. From the DJs to the visual artists, the city workers at the event to ensure safety, and the hundreds of volunteers and organizers who had worked so diligently to make this event a reality, it brought them all together under SF LoveFest.
At the Civic Center Plaza, Grandmaster Flash gave the audience a performance showcasing his love for the DJ culture; Above & Beyond dished out their special form of trance; Bad Boy Bill whipped the crowd with his Chicago signature sound; DJ Rap housed it, DJ Dan worked it; the Opel/Qool crew brought world class breakbeat; the SF locals showcased their specialty - a little bit of all of it is the classiest form; and there were so many more performances that deserve standing ovations. It was apparent to all that this event was not just for the fans, as the artists were having more than a bit of fun themselves!
San Francisco has something special on its hands, perhaps this is due to the history of the city and the community able to embrace and accept diversity. From the mayor to the police officers, the citizens, the rich traditions of music and festivals and the amazing art community, this city is the perfect home to this event. But this event wasn't just about the party. It was also about a message of love and respect and cooperation through the vehicle of dance music. Which will sustain the participants long past the last record that was played...

Quote of Support from Loveparade Berlin Founder Dr Motte
"If you had experienced the Loveparade in San Francisco the last 2 years
and have tasted the Rapture at its heart, then you will know something of
what is coming. The new San Francisco LoveFest experience is at the very
heart of the dance culture phenomenon that is spreading rapidly and
unstoppable around the world. It is about LOVE and it is about FREEDOM.
It is about remembering Who We Really Are and why we are here. The San
Francisco LoveFest itself is part of a much wider personal, social and
spiritual transformation-revolution which will utterly change our world over
the coming decades. Our very ideas about who we are and what we are
capable of are about to be turned upside down. With this next evolution of
the event, we are about to take a step into a different future in which all
that is best and most beautiful in the human soul will find the right
conditions to flower.
THIS IS OUR FUTURE. OPEN YOUR HEART ... FREE YOUR MIND ...
FACE YOUR FEARS... LIVE YOUR SOUL ... DANCE!"
- Dr. Motte, Founder: Loveparade Berlin
Our Values and Intention
The San Francisco LoveFest is an volunteer non-profit organization. Any profits made from the event go back into next year's event and to participating non-profit organizations. This year's event is a new event that takes into account our alignment with the original vision of the Loveparade events, our experience throwing them the last 2 years, and makes it our own. That vision of a free parade that celebrates music, love, diversity, tolerance, dance, and community is something we believe in strongly, and believe America needs now more than ever. Dance music has always had a special ability to bring people together in the shared beauty of a universal vibe. Our community by and large remains 'underground' in U.S. pop culture due to very little support from radio and MTV, etc. We know that in a culture awash in conflict, materialism, superficial concerns, and greed, an event of this kind can lift the spirits and the hopes of those who to surrender to it's power. The power of dance. The power of music. The power of community. We're taking it to the streets letting the vibe and the cooperation and respect of the people taking part in it be a message of hope in dark times. We intend to make the event a platform for dance music to reach more ears in America and beyond, to carry a message of love and hope, to be a vehicle for helping organizations doing good in the world, and for dancing our asses off surrounded by friendly freaks. See you in the streets.
